Barrow event uses free books to mark National Literacy Day

A number of 'brilliant local organisations' worked together to offer free books and activities in Barrow.

National Literacy Day was celebrated at an event at The Bridge on Portwalk Walk between 10.30am and 2.30pm on Saturday, September 5.

Barrow BID were joined by Westmorland and Furness Libraries, Best Start Family Hubs, and the Lakes International Comic Festival on the day.

A spokesperson from Barrow BID said: "We gave away free books thanks to our partnership with the National Literacy Trust as part of the National Year of Reading.

"And we were joined by some brilliant local organisations offering free workshops, activities and giveaways."

The event also featured an exclusive reading of a soon-to-be released children's book by local author Richard Graham and a book swap.
