A woman celebrated her 70th birthday by jumping out of a plane after the idea was suggested by a family member before their death.
Jackie Butler took on the adrenaline-fuelled fundraiser on Sunday, August 23 to raise money for St Mary's Hospice of Ulverston.
The Seascale resident is no stranger when it comes to supporting the charity, having used previous milestone birthdays to bring in donations.
Jackie said: "Each big birthday - at 50, 60 and now 70 - I have raised money for St Mary's Hospice after losing a very dear friend to bowl cancer, who they took great care of.
"Last year, my uncle Derek Bell was losing his own battle with cancer and we got Hospice at Home from St Mary's to help care for him.
"What a brilliant team they are, just wonderful, we couldn't have had better, and they made it an honour to be with him on his last journey."
At the time of writing, over £1200 has been raised on Jackie's JustGiving page, which is still accepting contributions here.
She added: "Before he died, my uncle asked me what I was doing to fundraise this time - I was unsure, so he suggested throwing myself out of an aeroplane, I agreed so got on and organised it.
"I do not normally fly or go up ladders because I'm terrified of heights, so I had to compartmentalise each stage of the day.
"During the plane journey, I spent time meditating and deep breathing, and then exiting the plane was terrifying."
Despite those fears, Jackie still described the moment of the canopy opening as 'unbelievably awesome'.
"I will not do it again but really enjoyed my experience and I cannot praise the skydiving team enough, they were so much fun and very caring and professional."
Added to the online fundraising page will be cash sponsorship with £1000 and approximately £300 in Gift Aid, with there still being time to donate.
