A late-night coastal search was launched after reports that two young people were believed to have become cut off by the tide.
The incident occurred at Humphrey Head near Flookburgh shortly before 10pm last night (July 24).
Furness Coastguard said the area was particularly busy at the time due to visitors at a nearby caravan site and the Steam Gathering event at the airfield.
Coastguard teams from Furness and Arnside, along with Bay Search & Rescue, carried out a full search of the sea wall, embankment, and Humphrey Head Point.
A spokesman for Furness Coastguard said: "Bay Search & Rescue also deployed their drone, using thermal imaging to search the marsh, gullies, and other areas that were difficult to access, providing a high level of confidence that no one was in the area.
"No individuals matching the description were seen or heard despite a thorough search.
"No one had been reported missing to the caravan site, the airfield, or Cumbria Police.
"Following consultation with the HM Coastguard Rescue Coordination Centre at Holyhead, the search was stood down at 1.15am."
Coastguard teams said the incident was treated as a 'false alarm with good intent.'
They praised the member of the public who raised the alarm.
The Furness Coastguard spokesman said: "The caller did exactly the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard.
"We’d always rather investigate a report and find no one in danger than risk someone not receiving help when they need it.
"Thank you to site security at Haven Caravan Park for enabling access to the site and to our colleagues at Bay Search & Rescue for their support and assets deployed during the search."
