A CAR 'doing doughnuts' on the coast of south Cumbria required rescuing on Bank Holiday Monday after rolling over.
A multi-agency response was launched following reports of a vehicle driving on the sands at Flookburgh.
The teams involved included Furness Coastguard, Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard, Bay Search and Rescue, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Cumbria Police and the North West Ambulance Service.
A spokesperson from Furness Coastguard said: "The vehicle's driver had been doing doughnuts in the sand, the wheels had dug in and the vehicle rolled over.
"The initial call to our Rescue Coordination Centre at Holyhead did not say if persons were trapped inside, injured or how many casualties.
"One casualty was treated for injuries by the fire service and handed over to NW ambulance."
The vehicle itself was viewed as a pollution risk due to its presence at a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI).
The spokesperson added: "So Bay Search and Rescue were called to use their specialist all terrain vehicles to right the car and tow it back above high water.
"This was an example of coordinated work from the emergency services and the independent BaySar, who are charity and rely on donations to support their excellent work."
The team at Bay Search and Rescue said the incident occurred when 'a bit of fun turned into a bit of a disaster'.
They commented: "We were all tasked to a vehicle with five occupants inside, following their losing control out on the sands near Flookburgh.
"The vehicle rolled over onto its side and, fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained by the five occupants.
"Our Hagglunds recovered the vehicle back onto its wheels, and got it off the shore preventing further oil and fuel pollution as the tide runs in later today - great teamwork from all involved."
