Excitement is building among locals as Barrow’s newly refurbished Vue Cinema has revealed that it will reopen before Christmas.
The cinema, located in Hollywood Park, is set to reopen its doors on December 19 after a major transformation.
It now boasts more comfortable seating, advanced projection technology and a new self-service snack purchasing system.
The refurbishment includes 108 new Lux recliner seats and 42 Ultra Lux seats, promising what Vue calls its “largest, comfiest seating yet.”
These seats are designed to let visitors relax in style, complete with wider armrests, personal tables, beverage coolers, and reclining leg and back rests.
Sheila McIntosh reacted: "Wow! Think I'll go more often with seats like that!! And if film boring I can fall asleep in them!!!"
Others expressed similar sentiments, noting the appeal of high quality seating for enjoying films or simply unwinding for a couple of hours.
Anne Wilson said: "Looks great very happy with these" while Ethan Mills said: "I am looking forward to go to the refurbished Vue cinema in Barrow-in-Furness when it reopens. I'm getting excited."
As well as upgraded seating, the cinema introduces “Vue Your Way,” a new self-service food and drink concept making its Barrow debut as the first venue in the North West to feature it.
Customers will be able to select their own snacks at various stations, pay at self-service checkouts, and scan tickets for swift entry to their chosen screen.
Some regular visitors hope the refurbishment will address past issues that have dampened the cinema experience, such as unusually bright lighting and temperature woes.
Jonathan Duffell said: "Are they going to turn the lights off during the films now? Last few times I went it was as bright as sitting at home watching a film with the lights on."
Meanwhile, Emma Jane Hall said: "Might give the old haunt a visit as long as they’ve fixed the heating, no heating in winter, no AC in summer."
The upgrade also means all six screens at the Barrow site will get new Laser by Barco projection technology, which promises sharper images, deeper contrast, and a more vibrant cinematic experience than ever before.
Visitors will be tempted by a selection of blockbusters for the reopening, including the much-anticipated Avatar: Fire and Ash and the musical Wicked: For Good, as well as festive favourites like Love Actually and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Merry Tong said: "I hope this is supported and we don't lose this cinema."
While some local residents admit they have not always been regular visitors—Wayne Jackson said: "Only ever went in a couple of times because never liked it but may give it another chance by looking at those seats"—the promise of luxury and modern convenience seems to be winning over fresh interest.
