A Barrow cinema has closed its doors as work begins on a major refurbishment promising luxury seating, enhanced visuals and ‘immersive’ sound.
Vue, based at the Hollywood Park Retail and Leisure Complex, temporarily shut on November 3 to allow the renovation project to take place.
The work is expected to be completed before the end of the year with the venue set to reopen boasting upgraded seating, cutting-edge projection and a new retail experience.
A Vue spokesperson said: “In order to put the finishing touches to the exciting upgrades at our site in Barrow, we are briefly closed. This is so we can work as quickly as possible to bring an even better big screen experience to our customers in Barrow, who will be able to enjoy our extra comfortable Lux & Ultra Lux seating and new retail concept Vue Your Way. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our new look venue later this winter.”
The refurbishment includes the installation of ‘Lux’ leather recliner seating with foldaway tables, plush headrests and armrests, as well as a more premium ‘Ultra Lux’ option offering an extra-wide armrest, drinks cooler, bag storage space and a personal table for snacks and beverages.
The back and legs of the Ultra Lux recline independently, allowing customers to find the most comfortable viewing position.
As part of the upgrade, the cinema will also introduce Laser by Barco projection, designed to create a brighter and sharper image and the site will be getting improved Dolby sound in the screens.

Vue’s new ‘Vue Your Way’ retail concept will also be introduced, allowing customers to scan their ticket before moving through the food and drink area to select their snacks before paying at the checkout.
Once complete, the improvements are expected to transform Vue Barrow into one of the most modern cinema experiences in Cumbria.
