The proposal, lodged by Temple of Play CIC, aims to turn the former NatWest bank on Queen Street, Ulverston into a café that would provide indoor play space for children aged zero to five.
The NatWest Ulverston branch was closed on September 27 2017 due to an increase in mobile and online banking.
The building itself is a grade-II listed building.
The application reads: “No external or internal works to the fabric or character of the listed building are proposed as part of this application.
“Any future works that might affect the building’s special architectural or historic interest will be the subject of a separate Listed Building Consent and/or Planning application where required.”

The café is intended to take up the ground floor commercial premises of the former bank.
As part of the proposal, a list of uses has been outlined. They include: indoor play sessions, a local family-services directory, café and refreshments, drop-in support from breastfeeding practitioners and infant-sleep specialists, and occasional workshops and classes.
Examples of classes given are baby yoga, craft sessions, and post-natal pilates.
The times of the potential café have been given as “typically” 9:00 to 17:30, with occasional “small evening classes” between 19:00 and 21:00.
The application reads: “This community-focused facility will help address the shortage of indoor play opportunities in the Furness area and support the well-being of local families by providing a positive, low-impact use for this prominent and historically significant town-centre building.”
The café is aiming to provide “hot and cold drinks, light meals and snacks” to its customers.
The application makes note to mention that the existing ATM will be removed as well as all signage. All internal fittings associated with the bank will also be removed if the proposal is given the go-ahead.
A date of the end of the consultation has not yet been given. No date for the final decision has been given either.
