New play cafe and family centre coming to Ulverston

Ylana Lovell is the founder of Temple of Mumma CIC, which aims to create welcoming space for parents to connect, relax, and access resources while their children play.

The plan is to incorporate many different aspects in one space. As well as serving food and drinks, there will be an indoor play area, workshops, seasonal family events, and celebrations like baby showers and birthday parties.

(Image: Ylana Lovell) “We’ll also be a go-to hub for all local family information - playgroups, breastfeeding support groups, health providers, and family services - all in one place, saving parents time and helping them find what they need,” Ylana said.

In the future, they plan to introduce childcare for under-twos, holiday camps and supervised play sessions.

Ylana said: “This won’t just benefit families; it will also create jobs and apprenticeship opportunities in the childcare sector.”

The board of directors also includes Rhian Graham and Beth Skinner.

Rhian Graham (Image: Ylana Lovell) Rhian has ‘extensive’ experience in managing community spaces, budgeting, and programming events, while Beth is known for running Baby Sensory & Toddler Sense for the last seven years and is now working as a Mental Health Practitioner for Barnados.

“The area is facing a severe childcare shortage,” Ylana said, “Many parents can’t even get onto waiting lists, making it even harder for them to work, rest, or take care of their well-being. Demand is only growing as more families relocate here for work opportunities, yet the infrastructure to support them just isn’t in place.

“Ulverston is a vibrant town, one of the many reasons I love living here, but without dedicated family-friendly spaces, parents are left feeling isolated, and children are missing out on valuable opportunities for social and developmental play.

The goal is to open in 2025, but this depends on securing the right space and the necessary funding.
