One of the newest social enterprises in south Cumbria is hoping to build upon the progress it has already made heading into 2025.

Millom and Around the Combe CIC first greeted the local community in July this year, working as a source of free food for people struggling in the area.

It has since gone on to open two shops in the town, offering a range of products at cut prices to combat the cost-of-living crisis.

Sue Dust, a Director of the enterprise, said: "Our team - consisting of myself, Sarah Sharpe, Kath Edwards, and Carol Farren - came together with a common goal: to make a positive impact on the community without any hidden agendas or a focus on profit.

"Unprepared fully for what laid ahead, we were driven by a strong desire to enhance the lives of Millom residents and demonstrate that a community-driven organisation, when operated with compassion, heart, and empathy, can flourish."

Sue described their ongoing journey as 'remarkable', spurred on by the 'overwhelming' level of support from fellow residents.

"The backing from other organisations has also been incredible, and we are excited to further strengthen and expand these partnerships in the future," she said.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported us along the way, from certain local businesses to amazing individuals.

"Your selfless acts of kindness, unwavering support, and dedication have not gone unnoticed."

The aim of the CIC is to ensure an array of affordable products are always available, because 'everyone deserves access to essential items'.

Sue added: "Our core belief has always been that every individual who walks into our shops should leave feeling uplifted and cared for.

"We care about earning their trust, understanding the challenges they face, and genuinely wanting to assist in any way possible.

"Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve."
