A PENSIONER has been ordered to pay over £1,000 to a court after being convicted of causing a male harassment, alarm or distress.

Roger Knowles, of Middleton Place, Millom, pleaded not guilty to using threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour to the complainant in the case on April 24 at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

However, the 74-year-old was found guilty of the Public Order Act 1986 offence committed in Millom on October 2 last year by a panel of magistrates after a trial on June 25.

Knowles was fined £300 for the offence and ordered to pay court costs of £650, as well as a £120 surcharge.

Magistrates gave the defendant until August 20 to pay off all payments.
