A WALKER was airlifted to hospital after sustaining an injury in the Lake District.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) were called at 2.40pm on Saturday (June 8) to a walker who had taken a tumble and sustained a lower leg injury.

The incident took place on Loughrigg fell on the outskirts of Ambleside while the walker was 'enjoying the weekend sunshine', explained the mountain rescue team.

The team said they treated the walker on the scene who was then carried to the North West Air Ambulance helicopter.

The crew then sent the person away to the hospital for further treatment.

A spokesperson for LAMRT said: "Don't forget:

"Be adventure smart.

"Ask yourself 3 questions before you set off:

"– Am I confident I have the knowledge and skills for the day?

"– Do I know what the weather will be like?

"– Do I have the right gear?"
