HERDY has announced the opening of a new shop in the heart of the Lake District.

The gift and homeware company announced the store will be in Ambleside, making it the fifth shop in the Lakes for the brand.

A spokesperson from Herdy said the business had gone 'from strength to strength' since it was founded 17 years ago. It sells products inspired by Herdwick sheep, which have become icons of the Lakes.

The company described it as the 'ideal' location for the new store.

Co-founder Dianne Hannah said: "Ambleside has always been a special place for us. It's a town that embodies the spirit of the Lake District with its stunning scenery, rich history, and welcoming local community.

"Opening our fifth store here feels like a natural next step for Herdy."

The brand is hoping to tap further into the Lake District's tourist market, which they said welcomed over 19 million visitors last year.

The Ambleside shop will provide a larger showcase for the 'Herdysleep' brand, which is a selection of mattresses made with Herdwick wool.

"The inclusion of Herdysleep in our new store allows us to highlight the versatility and quality of Herdwick wool," Ms Hannah said.

Its official opening day will be on Saturday, May 25.
