PLANS have been lodged for a viewing platform at a four-star Lake District hotel.

Daniel Thwaites PLC has submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority to build a viewing platform at Langdale Chase hotel near Ambleside.

According to planning documents the proposed viewing platform will be an extension of the existing ‘bastion feature’ on the lakeshore path in the hotel gardens.

An artists statement submitted with the proposals says: “The design of the bastion takes inspiration from the surrounding water, waves and wind that we have in abundance in the Lake District.

“It was important to create a strong link to the surroundings so the structure has a strong sense of place. By pushing the bastion out from the shore it creates a stronger link with the water and the natural elements that have inspired its design.”

In planning documents, it says the feature will sit independently on piles (Jetty construction) that are set in from the edge. This approach also removes any requirement for any concrete foundations.

The planning statement concludes: “The proposals for the proposed viewing platform at the Bastion at Langdale Chase will cause no harm to any of the designated or non-designated heritage assets at the site and it is judged will bring about an enhancement by providing a bespoke-designed, high quality artistic feature that will enable better appreciation of the heritage assets.”

This planning application is under consideration.
