HUNDREDS of hikers took to the fells overlooking Grasmere to raise money to support veterans and their families across the UK. 

The teams completed routes that were between 10km and 32 kilometres long. 

The Cumbrian Challenge by veterans charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) celebrated its 11th year on Saturday, May 18. Over the the years 2,000 teams have raised £2 million in support of ex-military personal. The funds have bolstered the charity's mental health care, employment and coordination programmes to support veterans and their families in need.

This year's event has so far raised £191,000 for veterans. 

There were three routes available to the participants in order of length: peak, tough and tougher. 

Walk for Wine team conquered the Peak route in 3 hours and 5 minutes, M’Cory Bullets team triumphed over the 'Tough' route in 3 hours and 43 minutes, and BAE Fire + Rescue Flyers team from BAE Systems completed the ‘Tougher’ route in 5 hours and 41 minutes.

The chief executive officer of the veteran's charity Tony Hulton said: "Thank you to everyone who took part in the Cumbrian Challenge 2024. It was a brilliant weekend and truly wonderful to see such unwavering support from the Armed Forces community, corporate partners and WWTW supporters.

James Davis is WWTW's events manager. He added: "The Cumbrian Challenge delivered an immersive weekend, uniting WWTW supporters, friends, and colleagues who came together to support UK veterans and their families.
