A TERMINALLY ill man married the love of his life after caring hospice staff arranged a wedding as his health deteriorated.

Liam, one of St Mary's Hospice's Hospice at Home Patients, tied the knot to Vicki on a 'magical day' at The Dunes Hotel in Barrow.

Tragically, the following day his condition worsened and he was admitted to the hospice to spend his final hours with loved ones.

A representative from St Mary’s Hospice said: “Liam and Vicki enjoyed an emotional but magical day celebrating in the glorious with their nearest and dearest.

“They were even treated to the spectacular beauty of the Aurora Borealis, lighting the sky at the end of the night.

“The memories created from their special day will stay with Vicki and the rest of the family forever.

"We are sharing this story with the permission of Vicki and the rest of Liam's family to demonstrate why we do what we do, and to celebrate the joy that Liam and Vicki were able to enjoy.

“Sadly, we cannot change the outcome for those we care for, but we can change the journey.”

St Mary’s Hospice thanked The Craig Smith Charitable Foundation. AMB-Vision, The Dunes Hotel, Lakeland Rings, PhotoHoof, Helen at Ellie’s Designer Florist, Mr Mister and Treat Cycle sweet cart for their kindness and generosity.

They also thanked their friends and family for helping the hospice’s nursing and fundraising teams pull things together so quickly.
