A Lake District guest house of TV fame will be closing its doors for the final time next month.

Dome House in Bowness-on-Windermere earned national attention after it appeared on Channel 4's Grand Designs, showcasing efforts to renovate it and return it to its former glory.

It was described by presenter Kevin McCloud as 'impressive' and 'awe inspiring'.

However, the owners Phil McGuire and his partner Joyce, announced earlier this week that the site will close on Sunday, June 23.

Phil said: "After seven years at the helm of Dome House, Joyce and I have decided to move on to pastures new.

"That means if you've ever wanted to visit, or make your return, there are only a few weeks left to do so.

"It's been a real privilege serving so many guests over the years, so come and help us celebrate the end in style."

Architect Robert Gaukroger was the mind behind the unusual structure, designing it so that it almost disappeared into the hillside overlooking Windermere.

Mr Gaukroger sold it in December 2016 to Yvonne Malley, who became aware of the guest house's potential after spotting it on TV.

It would not be long until she was passing the business onto her son Phil, who has helped oversee its success for a number of years.

Said to have some of the best views of Windermere, Dome House has earned popularity since it properly opened for its contemporary design and unusual exterior.

As a way of giving back to the people who have kept the business running, Phil and Joyce are encouraging visitors to book a stay right up until the closing date in June.

Those who buy a room will receive a 20% discount, with the owners hopeful that will encourage more people to come to 'make the most of these final days'.
