Sessions are being held for those who want to try beekeeping.

Furness and District Beekeepers’ Association (FBKA) is a charity that helps people get into beekeeping.

The sessions are aimed at existing beekeepers and those who have wondered what is involved and where to begin.

The FBKA covers all of South Lakeland from the west coast to the M6 and beyond.

It also runs training apiaries (places where bees are kept) at Outcast near Ulverston and at Haverthwaite.

Sessions from 10.30am on Saturday mornings throughout the spring and summer and all you need to attend your first session is a pair of wellington boots

The club provides the suits, gloves, veils, the equipment and the bees. You can progress from observing to doing to – eventually – having your own hives and bees.

Chair Graham Jackson said: "Keeping bees is hugely rewarding but help, advice and know-how are needed to get into it. These are what Furness and District Beekeepers are able to provide."

A small annual membership fee is required that includes insurance against diseases and mishaps that rarely occur.

The FBKA purchases some of the consumables in bulk passing them on to members at wholesale prices so when you get to keeping your own bees you can keep costs down.
