A CHINESE takeaway has been hit with a low food hygiene rating following an inspection.

Great Wall, on Roose Road, in Barrow, was given a two out of five after an assessment on March 12, according to the Food Standards Agency's website.

The takeaway's Google page has an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on 15 Google reviews.

A food safety officer from Westmorland and Furness found the hygienic food handling standards and the management of food safety were 'generally satisfactory.'

However, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control was rated 'improvement necessary'.

A takeaway spokesman said it was working on the improvements and that inspectors had given them two months from the assessment day to renew it.
