THE Mail brought you the news earlier this week of an eight-year-old Cumbrian boy who reached the Everest Base Camp with his mother while raising money for charity.

Frankie McMillan began the trek on March 1 and completed the hike to 5,364 metres nine days later.

He has so far raised £1,612 for children’s charity Make-A-Wish UK.

He hopes to raise £5,364 target – a pound for every metre of height to reach Base Camp.

Celebrating their achievement, his mother Basia McMillan said: “After years of practice and dreaming he finally touched the famous rock at Everest Base Camp. I’m so so so so happy for you my boy.”

Frankie is no stranger to climbing mountains with his mother. Last year he became the youngest Briton to climb Mount Olympus in Greece.

He has now climbed more than 500 mountains and hills, including summiting Scafell Pike when he was only four years old.
