A MAN charged with murder following an alleged incident at a home in Barrow will appear at crown court on Monday.

William Prince is said to have committed the act on March 17 on Abbey Road.

The 64-year-old defendant, of Abbey Road, appeared before magistrates in Barrow on April 11 as court proceedings officially began.

Cumbria Police said Geoffrey Kershaw, 90, from Abbey Road, died in hospital on March 22 following the incident.

An inquest was formally opened into Mr Kershaw’s death at Cockermouth Coroners’ Court on Thursday morning.

However Coroner Robert Cohen suspended the inquest until further order due to ongoing murder investigations by detectives.

Prince will appear at Preston Crown Court for both a preliminary and plea and trial preparation hearing on April 15.
