A FIRE crew received an 'unusual call' after two people were found sheltering in a broken tent.

Ambleside Fire Station received the call on Tuesday (April 9) to investigate two people trapped by the high river levels in Mickleden on the Cumbria Way.

The team said they arrived at the scene after a two km off-road drive from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.

Two water first responders crossed the river where they found two persons sheltering in a broken tent.

The team said: "On assessment, one was found to have a head injury so Mountain Rescue was called to assist.

"While waiting for the Mountain Rescue team the injured person was kept warm and monitored."
