NEW lifebuoys have been installed on Roa Island and Piel Island following funding from Barrow Town Council.
Councillor Paul Griffiths requested funding from the council to install the lifebuoys to make 'Roosecote a little safer' for residents and visitors.
He enlisted the help of his grandson Frankie to install the lifebuoy at Roa Island. Piel Ferry has taken another lifeboat over to the island for the 'King of Piel' Aaron Sanderson to install it.
'The King of Piel Island' is whoever is the current landlord of The Ship Inn, the solitary pub out in the Walney Channel.
The Piel Ferry started running trips on March 29. It will continue to take passengers over to the island throughout the summer so tourists can visit the famous pub and the ruins of the castle.
