The police are renewing their appeal for information after a man was assaulted in Barrow on Sunday.

The incident took place on Cavendish Street at around 3:58am and also saw a woman being assaulted, though no lasting injuries were caused, said police.

The male victim, in his fifties, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 24-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm but has since been released on police bail.

A 16-year-old boy from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of attempting to assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and has been released under investigation.

Officers are continuing with their inquiries and are appealing to members of the public and those working in the area, such as taxi drivers, who may have witnessed the incident or were in the area at the time.
