ELEANOR Williams has spoken out about life in prison as she serves an eight and a half year sentence for perverting the course of justice.

The 23-year-old, described as a 'serial liar', was jailed last year after a jury ruled she had made false claims of being raped, trafficked and beaten by an Asian grooming gang.

Williams and family members have contributed to a Sky News podcast on the case.

In an email sent from prison last year Williams said she was busy working multiple jobs and looking forward to being released.

"I've been really busy, and I know it sounds crazy because I'm in jail, but I have just started work in here for an outside company and I have a reception job as well so I'm working from 8.30 to 8.30 every day and never seem to have a moment spare," she said.

Describing her mood, Williams said: "I'm OK now.

"The trial was hard but I'm moving forward now. Just working hard to make the days go quicker and I'll be out of here soon enough.

"Not many want to hear my side of the story and no-one ever has ever asked.

"The media only say what sells and not the rest of it."

One further email was blocked by prison screening systems with prisoners limited in what they can say in outside communications to journalists about their cases, said the podcast.

Williams' mother Allison Johnston told the podcast, called Unreliable Witness, she had been visiting her daughter every other week.

"It feels like she's getting on with prison life and working towards a future and it's nice to see her coming back into herself," she said.

"I see a smile on her face now and that's really nice."

Having spent an extensive period on remand and on curfew, Williams is due to be released on licence next year having served half her sentence.

Mrs Johnston told the podcast she had discussed Williams' potential return home after prison, saying: "There's an option for her to change her name, which we've discussed, and get a new identity - and I've said to her if that's the case then she couldn't come back to Barrow because it's such a small place and everybody knows your business.

"Personally I think she should just come back and ride it out."
