WE’VE taken a look at the average price of properties in towns across South Cumbria over the last year.
According to the latest data provided by HM Land Registry, Dalton-in-Furness is the cheapest location to buy a property at an average of £142,608.
Ambleside scoops the award for being the most expensive town in the whole of the county to live with average properties reaching a whopping £560,181.
Elsewhere, the cost to buy a house in Milnthorpe was priced at £332,826, which is nearly double the average cost to purchase a property in Barrow at £168,490.
The data shows the average price of houses over 12 months up until January 2024.
Across the country, average house prices in England decreased by 1.5% in the 12 months to January 2024 (provisional estimate), which according to the gov.uk website gives the average price of a house at £298,575.
However, research from the Office for National Statistics showed the North West region to have the highest growth in the country, with the annual percentage increasing by 1.2% in the 12 months to December 2023.
