The Great North Air Ambulance Service had a hectic weekend as they responded to 16 separate incidents.

The service explained that its critical care teams were repeatedly called out over Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesperson added: "Our doctor-led crews attended eight of these missions via rapid response vehicles, and the other eight via our helicopters.

"The call-outs varied in nature, from assaults to medical issues and road traffic collisions; as always, our teams were ready to respond to any eventuality."

The busy schedule and prompt responses served as another reminder of how vital the service is in the north of England.

More than 2,100 incidents were attended in 2023 and the past weekend has shown this is not set to slow down anytime soon.

This prompted further calls from the service for the public to support their cause, with their annual appeal up and running.
