A new public garden is set to be created for residents in Dalton to make use of.
Dalton Town Council confirmed that a plot of land at Goose Green had been leased to them, with plans now set in motion to transform the site into something locals can enjoy.
A spokesperson from the council said: "Part of the initial works required involves the felling of six Ash trees which are affected by Ash die back, a serious fungal disease which is killing Ash trees all over Europe.
"Ash die back is usually fatal for the tree and there is no cure."
The felling process was expected to start before the end of March, with further progress then able to take place.
