A WOMAN required a stretcher support from Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team after injuring her ankle on the return leg of the Fairfield Horseshoe.

She initially tried to walk off the fell but was forced to stop due to the pain, the mountain rescue team reported.

The team went up Stone Arthur and onto the ridge. She was treated by the team, stretchered off the fell and taken back to her car.

She then made her way to hospital for further treatment.

This four and a half hour call on Monday, March 18 was the day after another ankle injury sustained by a hiker in the Langdales, which the MRT also attended to.

The call on Sunday involved 15 members for five and half hours along with Kendal MRT. The one on Monday involved 20 team members for four and a half hours.

A team member said: "We would like to wish both casualties all the best in their recovery."
