CUMBRIAN fire stations set to hold charity car washes as part of a national fundraising campaign.

Firefighters from five fire stations will wash Cumbrian cars as part of The Fire Fighters Charity's annual Mega March fundraiser which aims to raise money that will fund the mental, physical, and social support the charity provides to the fire and rescue community.

The National Car Wash is raising these funds through a JustGiving page and so far has generated £1,898 for the charity.

In Cumbria, on Saturday, March 23 the fire fighter-run car washes will be held at Booths in Penrith, Cockermouth Fire Station, and Booths in Windermere before being held at Whitehaven Fire Station and Carlisle East Fire Station on Saturday, March 30.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are holding five more car washes in March to raise funds for The Firefighters Charity, which offers specialist, lifelong support for the UK’s fire service community.

"The charity is running a Mega March campaign, in which fire stations across the country are encouraged to hold fundraising car washes."

In addition, speaking on social media, Carlisle East Fire Station confirmed that their fire engines will be in attendance for locals to look at whilst they have their cars cleaned.

They said: "The fire engines will be on hand for any interested children and adults to look around, and operational crew will be expertly wielding the sponges to ensure your car is gleaming when it leaves."
