A new team of on-call firefighters in south Cumbria were tested for one of the first times on Tuesday night.

Taking place at the Ulverston Blue Light Hub, their latest cohort of on-call responders worked alongside the support team and the station's learning and development department.

The volunteers were tasked with approaching a 'burning' building, learning how to cope under the pressure and how to grow accustomed to the breathing apparatus.

A spokesperson from the station said: "We want to say thank you to all the recruits for their hard work, passion and eagerness to learn.

"Well done all for a great training night had by all."

Crews across the region have been inviting locals to become on-call firefighters in their most recent recruitment drive, with the volunteers in Ulverston showing the early signs of success in boosting numbers.
