THE area with the cheapest average house prices in the former South Lakeland district is Kirkby-in-Furness, figures show. 

Cardinal Steels and the Online Marketing Surgery have compiled a housing price report based on figures from HM Land Registry. 

The average house price in Kirkby in Furness is just £234,938. 

Unsurprisingly, given its place in the heart of the Lake District, Ambleside has the most expensive average house price at £581,587. 

These are the areas ranked from cheapest to most expensive:

  2. Ulverston (LA12): £295,172
  3. Coniston (LA21): £307,563
  4. Grange-over-Sands (LA11): £319,248
  5. Milnthorpe (LA7): £349,213
  6. Sedbergh (LA10): £369,892
  7. Broughton-in-Furness (LA20): £436,071
  8. Kendal (LA8): £469,989
  9. Windermere (LA23): £471,865
  10. Ambleside (LA22): £581,587

Carnforth (LA5) is outside of the former district's borders, but its postcode includes Arnside, Silverdale and Bolton-le-Sands which are either in or close to the area. The average house price for an LA5 postcode is £284,843. 

Kirkby Lonsdale comes under an LA6 postcode, which extends to Arkholme. The average house price in LA6 is £384,882.
