As work progresses on a new activity and leisure facility, Cumberland Council is looking for someone to manage the premises.

The opportunity is part of the ongoing Activating Community Health project within the Millom Town Deal which has received significant funding, including £20.6m from the UK Government's Town's Fund and an additional £8.7m in match funding.

Sited in Millom and Haverigg, this facility is expected to host a swimming pool, fitness studios, and a sports hall within a community and leisure hub setting.

More than just being an exercise facility, the council hopes that the space will contribute greatly to improving community health and well-being by offering inclusive, modern, multi-purpose spaces for locals to utilise.

David Savage, chairperson of Millom Town Deal Board, said: "We are actively working on two fronts to get this Leisure Hub moving forward.

"I understand what this facility means to the community and so we are progressing both the design and build procurement alongside this new opportunity to engage with potential operators.

"We encourage any potential operators of the new activity and leisure facility to get in touch.

"Lots of work is going on behind the scenes to drive forward these projects."

Potential operators are encouraged to express their interest by responding before the deadline of 4pm on Friday March 29, 2024.

They can reach out through Cumberland Council's online procurement CHEST under project ID DN714193, email the procurement team on procurement.capital@cumberland.go.uk or by post to the Capital Programme Team in Carlisle.

Cllr Mark Fryer, the leader of Cumberland Council said: "Work is continuing on these transformational schemes.

"This is one of a number of exciting schemes we are taking forward across the Cumberland area which have the potential to make a significant difference to people's lives."

Further information and a set of soft market testing questions regarding the facility can be found online.

Alongside the development of this facility, work continues on the Connecting Millom and Haverigg initiative, aiming to improve ways to move around these towns sustainably.

Once completed, the project will facilitate easier and safer movement around Millom and Haverigg on foot, by bicycle and by accommodating those with limited mobility.

The community was briefed on the latest plans on Wednesday, March 6, during a drop-in public engagement event held at the Millom Guide Hall.
