While performing in front of crowds at Disneyland is something millions of children around the world dream of, few manage to achieve this.

But for the children of a well-known musical theatre group in Barrow, their dream is about to come true.

KS Musicals is getting ready for the ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Disneyland Paris.

Thirty-six performers aged between 11 and 16 will perform a 20-minute show at Videopolis on Saturday April 6.

They will perform a medley of classic Disney songs including Try Everything from Zootopia, Go The Distance from Hercules, You’ll Be In My Heart from Tarzan and Reflection from Mulan as well as I’m Still Standing by Elton John and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.

The performing arts group plan to stay at a Disney Hotel for three nights, arriving on Friday, performing on Saturday and returning on the Monday.

Most parents are accompanying their children so for many the trip will double as a family holida, as there will be plenty of time to enjoy the park after the performance.

Their fundraising efforts totalled £3,500 which paid for costumes including purple and silver sparkly dresses for the girls and purple and black costumes for the boys.

After sending in an audition for a place in the Disney Performing Arts programme, KS Musicals were delighted to find their application was successful.

Katherine Parkinson, founder of KS Musicals, described the trip as a once in a lifetime experience. She said: “I think we’re all excited but a little bit nervous, the children have worked really hard, we’ve been rehearsing since September.

“There is an added pressure of performing on a professional stage, but I think they’re all ready to perform to an audience.

“It’s a unique opportunity, we’re the only school in the area to do this and it’s quite unusual, a great opportunity to be part of something special.

“They won’t realise how valuable the experience is until they’re older, but I wish I did it when I was younger."

After running a previous trip to Disneyland Paris in October 2018, which saw 120 young performers take the stage, Katherine was hoping to go every couple of years, but this was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.

13-year-old Ellie Monk is looking forward to performing at Disneyland Paris. She said: “It’s a once in a lifetime experience and I’ve enjoyed our rehearsals, we’ve all been working hard.”
