A Cumbria village has become the latest to benefit from fast-fibre broadband.

More than 400 properties in Flookburgh are now connected to 'lightning-fast Full Fibre broadband' by supplier Fibrus.

Flookburgh joins the likes of Workington, Parton and Ambleside, all of which have recently received fibre connectivity.

This advancement allows locals to obtain Fibrus Broadband in their homes and businesses providing speeds up to 1Gb.

Fibrus expressed appreciation for Flookburgh residents' patience during the work.

Colin Hutchinson, chief financial officer for Fibrus, highlighted the significance of this advancement.

He said: "We’re pleased to be able to bring the benefits of our Full Fibre network to even more communities in Cumbria.

"The work we have carried out in Flookburgh means that local residents connectable to the network will no longer have to tolerate unreliable speeds from old copper lines.

"We deliver our fibrefast Full Fibre network directly to your door so you’ll get faster, more reliable broadband with Fibrus."

Mr Hutchinson also revealed that traditional phone lines are no longer required for homes with Fibrus connection, stating: "As you will have fibre directly to your home, you will no longer need a traditional telephone line.

"If you use your telephone line for making and receiving calls, we can provide you with an excellent low-cost alternative using VoIP (voice over IP) Technology."

In addition to broadband infrastructure, Fibrus have also been investing in local communities.

Their community fund has invested £60,000 over the past year to combat digital poverty in the region, backing initiatives such as the Brathay Trust in Ambleside.

Moreover, they have backed a variety of grassroots sports clubs and pioneered the Fibrus 100, Cumbria’s first cricket league for girls, involving two southern Cumbrian teams.
