BARROW-born Hairy Biker Dave Myers discussed his funeral plans with an interviewer from a national newspaper in 2014.

Tributes have poured in both nationally and locally for Dave since his death on Thursday, February 29 aged 66 after battling cancer for two years. His death was revealed in a statement made by his co-biker Si King on social media.

The pair became celebrities through their cooking and travelling TV shows starting in the 2000s. They originally met on the set of the Catherine Cookson series The Gambling Man years before they started doing Hairy Bikers.

In 2014 Dave was interviewed by Rob McGibbon for The Definite Article, a feature in the Daily Mail's Saturday magazine Weekend. Dave revealed what his plans were for his funeral.

He told the Daily Mail: "I'd like vodka martinis served before a church service to get everyone loosed up."

Dave then said there would be a reading of Blake's Innocence, then Vaughn Williams' Lark Ascending 'to get them crying.' After that he wanted to pick up the mood by being carried out to The Best is Yet To Come by The Scorpions.

He said he would prefer a traditional burial, and the wake would be a feast of meat and potato pine and chips with 'some decent wines.'

Dave Myers' primary school in Barrow called him the town's 'greatest ambassador.'
