A popular shop in Grasmere has announced its closure.

The team at Grasmere Garden Village, which can be found on Church Stile, took to social media to break the news.

However, optimism still remains high for the area, with two new businesses set to take over the site and offer something new for locals.

The owners of the store said: "We'd like to thank you for your loyalty and custom over the many years.

"Please follow and support the new businesses that are entering the premises."

The businesses coming in are Grasmere Gather, a gift shop, and Thirteen Valleys Kitchen.

"[Grasmere Gather is] a shop designed to showcase the best of local craftsmanship in the Lake District, all in one place," the departing team explained.

"It's a home for the finest products from Cumbrian and UK artisans, with a real focus on supporting local suppliers and the diversified farming community."

Thirteen Valleys Kitchen, in contrast, will provide a place for shoppers and visitors to take a break and enjoy some of the best food that the region has to offer.

"[They are] a warm, welcoming cafe and team, with a menu that is testament to the team's understanding of the Cumbrian land.

"Working hand in hand with those who live and farm here, they source the finest produce with local provenance."

The two businesses will officially launch on March 22, though locals have been invited to pop in already to meet the new proprietors and to see the changes taking place.

As expected, the news has been met with a mixture of sadness about the departure and hope for what the future holds.

One supporter said: "It's very sad - I want to thank them for being a very nice place to visit when in the area for all these years."
