A taster session is being held in Barrow to introduce locals to a different way of communicating.

Barrow Business Improvement District is working in partnership with Karen Baxter to host the event at the Holiday Inn Express on Friday, March 15 from 5:30pm.

The two-hour session will focus on Makaton, a language programme which uses signs, symbols and speech to support people with learning and communication difficulties.

Those in attendance will learn 34 signs from the core vocabulary, as well as an additional 12 concepts related to the theme of shopping.

Participants will then receive handouts explaining the symbols covered in the class, as well as additional information about the programme.

Barrow BID-levy paying businesses can sign up for the session by filling in the form here.
