THE owner of a cake business in Barrow has been praised in her latest food hygiene inspection.

Tina's Custom Cakes & Confections in Barrow's Market Hall received the score of five out of five after the inspection report on February 12.

The business, owned by Tina Hollywell, offers baking and decorating for all occasions, cakes and other sweet treats, and was able to retain the same rating following the successful inspection two years ago.

Tina said it was a 'relief' that she got the five stars as she believes that customers care about the food hygiene ratings that businesses get.

"It means that people are more confident that people want to buy products from me," she said.

"It is good to know that you practice good hygiene methods. The inspectors said to carry on what I was doing."

The hygiene standards found at the time of inspection are then rated on a scale, with five being the top of the scale. This means the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.

The inspector checked areas such as the hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety to achieve the final rating.

Tina's Custom Cakes & Confections opened in 2021 at the market and it has been successful over the years.

In the past, Tina had been operating the business from her kitchen in Walney when she decided to make a move into the market for more room.

"I started in 2014 from home and then went inside the market and did half from home and half in the market and now you have the shop as part of the market," she said.

"Now I am able to bake everything on site, and I have plenty of customers as I get passer-by trade."

Tina's Custom Cakes & Confections is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
