CUMBERLAND Council has postponed planned works to bridges on the A595 at Muncaster hours before they were due to go ahead because of the weather forecast.

The works to Muncaster Mill Bridge and Muncaster Bridge were scheduled for this evening and the following nights. The project aims to assess the load capacity of the bridge structures and identify possible future maintenance needs.

The postponement of the scheduled works is a precautionary measure considering weather forecasts, the council said.

The council states that the rescheduled works will take place within the next month for four to six nights, and the community will receive at least a seven-day advance notice before works start. It said that it is 'dedicated to prioritising the safety of both staff and the community throughout these operations.'

Cumberland Council said that it wishes to thank the community for their continued support and patience and advises drivers to contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736 or visit the Cumberland Council website for more information.
