TWO south Cumbrian schools got to the top twelve school and college teams in a north-west regional netball competition.

Ulverston Victoria High School (UVHS) and Sedbergh School's netball teams travelled to Stoneyhurst College in Lancashire on Saturday, January 27 for the North-West Schools' Netball Finals. This was the first time that UVHS's U19 team had progressed to this stage of the England Schools' Netball Championship.

The two schools represented Cumbria, with the remaining ten schools coming from other parts of the north-west.

Some of the other schools the UVHS team were competing against had players in the England U19 squad and it was their debut on the regional and national stage, but they still managed to place eighth overall. Sedbergh School came fifth.

Kirsten McKenny (Head of Girls’ PE) said: “I am so very proud of this young squad who have come together and performed at such a high level, especially as we do not get the chance to compete very often."

Ms McKenny said that the current squad would have another chance next year.

Cheadle Hulme School in Manchester and Holy Cross College in Bury will represent the North West in the national finals.
