ULVERSTON Victoria High School (UVHS) will once again be hosting The Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines for a weekend of workshops and concerts at The Coro.

The 20-year partnership between the two organisations includes annual joint concert weekends in Ulverston and trips down to Portsmouth for the UVHS students.

Assistant headteacher Richard Butler said: "It has seen countless students benefit from the professional coaching that the Marines Band Service provides during visits, with several auditioning for, and enjoying successful careers in, the band services of the Marines, Army and RAF."

On Saturday, April 27 the UVHS Wind Band and the Marines will be performing together at The Coro for Mr Butler said 'promises to be yet another spectacular concert.'

The school band will take to the stage first before the Marines. For the final third of the concert, 35 senior UVHS musicians will join the Marines on stage for a finale which will be the culmination of two afternoon workshops and rehearsals.

Mr Butler said: “All the students and staff are really excited to be welcoming the Marines back to Ulverston.  Over the last 20 years many of the Marines musicians have become friends of ours and the experience that our musicians get is really beyond value. We are also hoping that most, if not all, our former students who are now professional musicians across the armed services will be able to return ‘home’ to The Coro and perform alongside us.”

The UVHS band is also preparing for its first international tour to Germany and Belgium in July.

Tickets are available from The Coro Box Office.
