Wanted individuals were apprehended, and drug warrants were executed by law enforcement officers throughout the county during the most recent Operation Merlin week of action (29 Jan - 2 Feb).

Throughout the week, 11 arrests were made, encompassing charges related to burglary, the supply of Class A drugs, and grievous bodily harm with intent.

On Monday, officers executed drug warrants at addresses in Carlisle, resulting in two arrests.

Following a warrant at his residence, David Archibald, 43, of Whinsmoor Drive, Carlisle, was charged with possession of a Class A drug (cocaine).

Additionally, a second individual was arrested for breaching bail.

On Tuesday, a 50-year-old man from Carlisle wanted on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, was arrested.

He was subsequently released on bail as officers continued their investigations.

Another individual was arrested for recall to prison.

Thursday saw officers in the Furness area conducting a series of warrants.

A 32-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of cannabis importation, and a 46-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A third individual was arrested for breaching a court order.

On Friday, officers made four additional arrests.

A 34-year-old man from Carlisle was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs.

A 45-year-old woman from Carlisle was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the supply of Class A drugs.

Both were subsequently released under investigation.

Furthermore, a 20-year-old man from Kendal was arrested on suspicion of various offences, including common assault, theft, and taking a vehicle without consent. He was released on bail.

Operation Merlin, conducted throughout 2023, resulted in nearly 100 arrests.

Superintendent Sarah Jones said: “We will continue to pursue those people who think they are above the law and believe they can commit offences or evade justice with impunity.

“We will continue to carry out drug warrants at addresses across the county, whilst pursuing those who think they can get away with ignoring court orders and bail conditions.

“We continue to ask the public to be our eyes and ears in the community.
