A COUNCILLOR has described an attempted burglary at a nursery as 'senseless'.
Police are investigating after Chapel Street Infants and Nursery School in Dalton was the victim of an attempted burglary on the night of Wednesday.
At around 11:15pm headteacher Scott Macmillan was made aware of the school alarm going off.
An attempted burglary via the pre-school door left a ‘considerable’ amount of glass on the floor and resulted in classes being cancelled on Thursday.
There have been no updates from Cumbria Police, who said inquiries are still ongoing.
Councillor Ben Shirley said: “I understand that there was an attempted break-in at Chapel Street Infants School in Dalton this week.
“This is an absolutely senseless thing to do, and it isn’t the sort of thing we expect to have happen in Dalton.
“Together with other local councillors, we’re calling for Barrow Police to really step up, and be so much more present in the town which I believe will help to significantly deter incidents like this.
“I am aware that the school was closed for a day while school staff made the building safe for staff and children, and I hope the break in hasn’t caused too significant lasting damage.”
