The headteacher of a school in Dalton announced that it would be closed today, Thursday February 1, after an attempted burglary.

Last night there was an attempted burglary of Chapel Street Infants and Nursery School.

At around 11:15pm headteacher Scott Macmillan was made aware of the school alarm going off.

When he attended the nursery, there had been an attempted burglary via the pre-school door.

He said he arrived to find a considerable amount of glass on the floor.

All classes have been cancelled today due to evidence gathering and then cleaning.

Reception class must enter and be collected via the main entrance and the Nursery gates will remain closed.

Cumbria Police said the incident was reported at 11:43pm on Wednesday January 31 and that inquiries are still ongoing.
