The president of a Cumbrian outdoor manufacturer has been honoured with a Long Service Award.

Barry Leahey MBE, president of Playdale Playground, received the prestigious award for his dedication and leadership over two decades.

Joining as Marketing and Sales director, Mr Leahey has transformed the Cumbrian company, placing it on the global stage of playground design, manufacturing, and installation.

Today, Playdale Playground has a presence in 51 countries, primarily due to his strategic vision and skilled guidance.

Outside of Playdale Playgrounds, Mr Leahey devoted himself to helping other SMEs navigate challenges and achieve success.

In non-executive positions and mentoring roles, he's been a continuous source of support for organisations and individuals in various sectors, including the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.

His concern for the team was exemplified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Leahey implemented measures to assure the welfare of Playdale Playground employees across three Northwest sites.

This included enabling remote work through progressive software tools.

His commitment to innovation led to the development of 'PlayClean' during the pandemic.

This robust hand sanitiser station for playgrounds earned Mr Leahey the Lord Mayor's COVID-19 Livery Award from the City of London in 2021.

Over his 20 years, Mr Leahey has been consistently recognised with multiple awards, including the Great Britain Business Leader of the Year runner-up at the Great British Business Awards in 2023, and the Board of Trade Award from the Department of International Trade in 2019.
