The problems facing police in Barrow have been presented to a Cumbrian crime chief.

Mike Johnson, the Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, spent a morning on patrol throughout the town.

He was meeting the area's dedicated Community Beat Officer (CBO) PC Liam Oliver to get a first hand glimpse of the issues impacting Barrow at the moment.

Mr Johnson said: "The public continuously raise their desire to see more officers on our streets, which I fully understand.

"The introduction of CBO’s provides a dedicated, named officer for an area to help with any concerns raised by residents."

During the visit, the DPFCC and PC walked the town centre and Hindpool area to hear more about the work being done to tackle local concerns since PC Oliver took on the role as CBO in 2023.

This included a focus on how the local police force are dealing with anti-social behaviour and anti-social driving.

“I’m pleased that during Neighbourhood Policing Week, I am able to get out with our Community Beat Officer for Barrow Town Centre and hear all about the positive work that he has done in the area – especially around ASB," Mr Johnson added

“I would encourage the public to continue to report ASB and other issues around crime to the Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency - together we can keep Cumbria safe.”

Last week, Cumbria Police focused on the 'vital work' carried out by Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT).

This revolved around recognising the efforts put in on a daily basis to help tackle issues that matter the most to the local community.

Police desks were also held in each locality, giving residents an opportunity to meet their local officers and to further highlight what they see as the most important areas of focus in their towns.
