POLICE are still trying to identify a man whose body washed up on Roa Island and are appealing for help nationally.

The man, believed to be aged between 50 and 70, was found on the island in April last year.

But officers are still trying to find anyone who may know him.

Last year Cumbria Police appealed for information on the man, releasing an impression created by a forensic artist of what he may have looked like in life.

Despite the appeal, he is yet to be identified and police are casting the net wider in their search for information.

The case has now been added to UK Missing Persons Unit database held by the National Crime Agency.

A listing on the unit's website is urging anyone with details about the unknown man to come forward.

Police say details on the man are sparse - he was found with no identification on his person and no identifying marks, scars or tattoos on his body.

He is white, around 6ft is thought to be of European origin.

People are also asked to consider that the man may have been known to them as having a beard or unshaven - it is believed he had recently shaved before his death.

Appealing previously, Detective Inspector Laura Nield said: “Whilst the amount of information we have about the unidentified man is limited, the image we have secured for release to the public is excellent quality and may hopefully lead to someone getting in touch with information which can assist.

“I would urge anyone who does suspect they have any information – no matter how small – to get in touch today.”

The man's death was not treated as suspicious.
