TRAINS between Carlisle and Barrow have been disrupted due to 'heavy rain flooding the railway' - with passengers travelling around the route facing up to 90 minute delays.

Northern has announced that train services have been affected throughout the morning on the West Cumbrian line between Barrow and Carlisle in both directions with journey times being extended for up to 1 hour 30 minutes 

Train services are unable to run between Barrow-In-Furness and Carlisle (in both directions).

A statement on the Northern Rail website said: "Services between Barrow-In-Furness and Carlisle are currently bring disrupted due to flooding on the railway.

"A train will examine the line to see if Northern train services may proceed the line isn't not expected to be fully open until 10:00 this morning."

First services affected:

  • 05:58 Barrow-In-Furness to Carlisle will be cancelled
  • 05:53 Carlisle to Barrow-In-Furness will be delayed until the investigation of the track is complete. Road replacement transport:
  • 06:00 a bus will depart Barrow calling at all stations to Sellafield provided by South Lakes.
  • 06:51 a bus will depart Barrow calling at all stations to Sellafield and then set down only to Carlisle provided by South Lakes.
  • 07:23 Whitehaven all stops to Carlisle provided by Workington Transport Heritage Trust

Northern Rail have asked customers to check station information posters for bus pick up points.

The train company have said that journey times may be extended by up to 1 hour and 30 minutes whilst travelling by Rail Replacement transport.

Northern Rail said: "We apologise for the delay to these services and the additional time this may add to your journey today."
