Barrow's high street saw a roaring success as hundreds visited the opening of a new huge independent store.

The furnishings company moved from Buccleuch Street and began working on the building around mid-November which is quadruple the size of its old premises.

The business had been trading several years before it was taken over a few months ago by Rebecca Hill, 27, who had worked in retail for around seven years.

The Mail: Owner Rebecca outside Lazy Day's new unit"It was lovely to finally open yesterday," she said. "We had nearly 300 people step through the door on a cold windy Wednesday and now we can’t wait for the weekend.

"It’s been a lot of hard work turning the shop from an empty shell into our end result and we have had so many compliments about how nice it looks.

"So far, we have just opened the ground floor which is four times the size of the ground floor of our old shop.

"This means we have four times the amount of sofas on display, with even more coming in.

The Mail: The extra space has meant more room furniture and furnishings"We also will be able to have a lot more bedroom furniture on display that we currently have on order.

"We have sofas, dining sets, bedroom and lounge furniture, along with mirrors, wall art, clocks and accessories already in store.

"We have so much more arriving weekly - our plan is to develop the 1st floor and to also open that huge space in the near future.

Rebecca has lived in Barrow all her life and previously stated to The Mail that she believes the future of Barrow's town centre is dependent on independent traders now a lot of large chain stores have left.

Speaking about the opening yesterday, she said: "We hope by opening what is probably the biggest shop in town by an independent retailer in over 10 years will inspire other independent retailers to follow suit.

The Mail: The store will be opening its first floor soon"There’s so much development happening right now in town, now is the time to get in and hopefully once all the works are completed the town centre will offer a great shopping experience again.

"I believe in Barrow and I know many other independent retailers in the town centre do too.

"We’re putting the shops back on the high street, now we just need the customers to come and use them."

Paul Hodgson, Chairman of Barrow BID, added: "Congratulations to Lazy Days Home Furnishing’s on the amazing opening of their new Dalton Road location.

"It's fantastic to see a large empty unit in the town centre now in use again."
