Councillors have branded issues with dog poo in Barrow as ‘disgusting’.

Last week we received a picture from Christie Park showing the amount of dog muck littering a path in Ormsgill, between Middle White Close and Chester Place.

Christie said the amount of dog mess had been increasing getting worse and has forced her to walk a different route when taking her young son to school.

Deputy leader of the Labour group Councillor Bill McEwan said: “Regarding the dog litter, I think it’s disgusting. I think the owners of dogs have the responsibility to clean it up and that it can be avoided.”

He asked residents and members of the public who see it happening, to try and capture the moment and report anyone who is contributing to the mess, as ‘it’s not a very nice thing to have on our streets.’

Councillor Beverly Morgan said: “Dog fouling is disgusting. It’s a hazard to health and is a criminal offence that can result in fines, it’s as simple as that. Ormsgill residents shouldn’t have to deal with that kind of mess in their streets. That’s not bad dogs, that’s bad owners.

“There are no excuses, so dog owners need to pick up after their dogs and dispose of it properly. If the litter bin is full, they are expected to either take the dog waste home or use the next available litter bin. It’s not difficult.

“Leaving bagged waste on the ground or in a hedge is a criminal offence. If you see bagged waste on the ground, then please report it by contacting the council on 01229 876543 or online.”
